What does Excepted Quantity mean in ADR?

Excepted Quantity is an ADR simplification for very small quantities of certain dangerous goods and depends on the relevant EQ code.

Excepted Quantity, abbreviated as EQ, means exempted quantity. It is an ADR simplification for very small quantities of certain dangerous goods. Whether goods may be transported as Excepted Quantity depends on the respective EQ code of the specific dangerous goods.

The exemption is only possible if the dangerous goods are approved for it and the prescribed quantities per inner packaging and outer packaging are complied with. In addition, packaging, marking and documentation must match the chosen shipping method.

Excepted Quantity is mainly relevant for very small containers, for example samples, laboratory supplies, small quantities of chemicals or certain pharmaceutical and industrial products. Classification and correct preparation of the goods are the responsibility of the sender or client.
