What happens if the HS code is incorrect in international transport?

An incorrect HS code can lead to delays, additional charges or further customs checks in international transport.

An incorrect HS code or commodity code can lead to delays, post-clearance duties, additional checks or the temporary withholding of goods. Especially for exports to Central Asia, the Caucasus or the Middle East, authorities often check whether goods description, invoice data and HS code match.

This becomes particularly critical for technical products, spare parts, chemicals or machinery components. Even small discrepancies can affect import duties, permits or required certificates. Different translations or unclear goods descriptions increase the risk of additional queries at borders.

GLOBALSPED supports companies in checking export documents, goods descriptions and transport-relevant documents for plausibility at an early stage. Which requirements apply always depends on the type of goods, destination country, HS code and current regulations.
